Calhoun men arrested after marijuana deal turns into violent fight at BP gas station

According to a Gordon County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On Thursday June 8, 2023, at 12:38 AM, Deputy Giorgione was sitting stationary in the area of 727 U.S. Hwy 41 when he observed a female flag him down in the parking lot of the BP gas station located at 1444 Highway 41. Deputy Giorgione then observed two blacks males later identified as Melvin Scott McCrary, 42, of Calhoun, and Jamal Raquan Baron, 24, of Calhoun, in the parking lot both with blood on their face. According to the report, “Bystanders stated the individuals were fighting. Both males were entering their vehicles when Deputy Giorgione ordered both out of the vehicles. Jamal complied to orders. Deputy Giorgione gave verbal commands to Melvin to turn off his vehicle in which he did not and drove onto Soldiers Pathway. Deputy Carnes attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle in which the vehicle continued driving as Deputy Carnes advised he was in pursuit. Deputy Giorgione gave multiple lawful orders to Jamal to stay and remain on scene. Deputy Giorgione then went to assist Deputy Carnes.” Deputies performed a felony stop and took Melvin into custody. Deputy Giorgione was then advised by witnesses that Jamal had fled the scene to the Smith Motel. Deputies located the vehicle and Jamal at the Smith Motel. Melvin was checked out by EMS and Jamal refused EMS. Melvin stated he was selling marijuana to Jamal and he stuffed the marijuana in his pants in attempt to steal it. They both into a physical fight striking each other in the face. Jamal then singed a Do Not Wish To Prosecute form. Both men were transported to the Gordon County Jail. Melvin was charged with disorderly conduct, fleeing, reckless driving, and obstruction. Jamal was charged with obstruction.
