Summerville man arrested for DUI at GSP sobriety checkpoint on Hwy 114 in Chattooga County

According to a Georgia State Patrol incident report, On May 10th, 2023, at 8:27 PM, Corporal Flowers was conducting an approved DUI Sobriety Check on GA-114 near Holland Chattoogaville Road in Chattooga County. A grey 1990 Ford Ranger being driven by Logan Scott Prater, 26, of Summerville, traveling west on GA 114, came to a stop at the Sobriety Check. Corporal Flowers reported, “[I] asked the driver for his license. He handed me his Alabama driver’s license and [I] was able to identify him as Logan Prater. While talking to Mr. Prater, [I] noticed a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. [I] advised Mr. Prater to pull over to the right shoulder and exit his vehicle. While standing in front of my patrol car, [I] asked Mr. Prater if he had anything to drink and he stated no. [I] noticed his pupils were constricted, his eyes were blood shot and watery, and eyelid tremors was present. He gave me a sample of his breath on the PBT (BAC .127) and tested positive for an alcoholic beverage.” During field sobreity testing, Prater showed several signs of impairment and refused the state test. During a search of the vehicle, the trooper located a closed Bud light beer can inside of a black bag and a Styrofoam cup laying in the front passenger floorboard, with a shirt laying on top of it. There was alcoholic beverage inside. Prater was then transported to Chattooga County Jail charged with DUI and open container violation.
