Rossville woman arrested for DUI after 911 call from concerned citizen in Catoosa County

According to a Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On Saturday, June 10th, 2023, at 5:36 PM, Deputy Lewis observed a vehicle from a BOLO given by Catoosa County Communications on the parking lot of AP Handy Shop located at 2180 Lafayette Road, Fort Oglethorpe in the drive-thru. Deputy Lewis observed the 2003 Ford Mustang driving slowly through the parking lot of AP Handy Shop and driving through the stop sign on Hays Street at a low speed, turning right onto Old Lafayette Road. Deputy Lewis initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver Omega Fay Harkless, 66, of Rossville. Deputy Lewis asked Omega if she had anything to drink, and she advised she had not because she did not have any money to purchase more alcohol. Deputy Lewis inquired about Omega’s trip to AP Handy Shop if she had no money, and she stated she was trying to get some alcohol. Deputy Lewis checked Omega’s registration and license through NCIC and, upon return, found the registration to show no insurance on the vehicle. Fort Oglethorpe Police Department Officer Wong arrived on the scene to assist. Officer Wong advised Deputy Lewis he could smell the distinct odor of an alcoholic beverage on Omega while speaking with her further. During standardized field sobriety testing, she showed several signs of impairment. According to the report, “During the walk and turn test, Omega asked how far she would have to walk and then asked what she “gotta do all this for”, Deputy Lewis advised her it was standardized field sobriety tests, to which she replied “You gonna lock me up anyway, so what’s the difference.” Omega was very unsteady on her feet and held her arms out to balance when she did walk. Omega was unable to perform the one leg stand test and stated “just go on and take me to jail.” Officer Wong then provided a preliminary breath test (PBT), which Omega did perform with a positive result for alcohol of 0.194 grams.” Omega was placed under arrest for DUI and agreed to the state test. Omega then stated her chest hurt and that she needed her oxygen. EMS was called and transported her to the Hospital. On June 13th, 2023, Omega turned herself into the Catoosa County Jail, charged with DUI, no insurance, and stop sign violation.
