According to a Georgia State Patrol incident report, On July 18th, 2023, at 6:40 PM, Trooper Story observed the driver of a 2023 Cadillac Deville not wearing a seatbelt while patrolling on Union Grove Road in Gordon County. Trooper Story attempted a traffic stop, and the driver of the vehicle continued to travel a short distance before coming to a stop on Union Grove Church Road. Trooper Story reported, “When [I] bent slightly down to inform the driver the reason for the stop, [I] immediately noticed the strong odor of marijuana coming from his persons and vehicle. [I] also noticed he had bloodshot and watery eyes. [I] then asked for his driver’s license, and this is when he handed me a 1205 DDS form serving as his temporary driver’s license.” The driver was identified as Gregory Phillip Dixon, 50, of Rome. Dixon advised he was not wearing his seatbelt because he just left from dropping his daughter off. Trooper Story also noticed there was a pack of open Ultra’s in the back seat. Dixon advised he had recently smoked marijuana before driving when asked by the trooper. GCIC showed that his Georgia driver’s license was suspended for DUI. During Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, Dixon showed several signs of impairment and showed a .06 on a PBT. Dixon refused the state test. During the search of the vehicle, Trooper Story located a large cooler containing a large amount of marijuana individually packaged for resale. Dixon was then taken to Gordon County Jail, charged with DUI, seatbelt violation, felony possession of marijuana for distribution.
