Rossville man arrested on a slew of charges after high-speed chase in Walker County

According to a Walker County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On July 16th, 2023, at 8:56 PM, Deputy Ferguson was patrolling the area of Happy Valley Road and observed a 2003 Dodge Neon SRT4 traveling south at a high rate of speed at speeds well over 70 mph in a 35 mph speed zone in a residential area. The deputy also observed the vehicle driving all over the roadway, failing to maintain the lane of travel. The vehicle then made an improper right turn onto Hwy 2 and did not have any working brake lights. The Georgia registration displayed on the vehicle did not return to the vehicle it was being displayed on. Deputy Ferguson attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Deputy Ferguson reported, “The vehicle slow rolled to the intersection of Hwy 2 and Hwy 193 where he then made a sudden left-hand turn traveling south on Hwy 193 running the red light. [I] advised Walker Central that the vehicle was not stopping and that [I] was in pursuit. [I] advised my supervisor of the traffic violations and the reason for the stop. [I] was then advised to continue.” The pursuit went down Happy Valley Road and Chattanooga Valley Road at speeds well over 80 mph. The pursuit then went down Mountain View Cir and back down Chattanooga Valley Road. At one point, the driver threw a spare donut tire out of his driver-side window and multiple pieces of trash and clothes. He then ran the red light at the intersection of Hwy 193 at Happy Valley Road, nearly slamming into another vehicle. He then continued east on Happy Valley Road, where he reached speeds over 85 mph. The driver ran the stop sign at Bulldog Trail and Cora Ann Drive. After making a U-turn and going back through the stop sign, he then pulled into a driveway on Happy Valley Road. Deputy Ferguson took the driver, identified as Casey Duane Tapley, 31, of Rossville, at gunpoint. The driver complied with commands and was taken into custody. Tapley was booked into the Walker County Jail, charged with felony fleeing, concealing identity of vehicle, no insurance, speeding, reckless driving, improper lane change, improper right turn, failure to obey traffic control device x2, failure to obey stop sign x2, littering highway, and brake light violation.
