Dalton man arrested for DUI after driving reckless and crashing into two CMVs on I-75 in Gordon County

According to a Gordon County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On Wednesday, September 13th, 2023, at approximately 1:59 AM, Deputy Bingiel was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident with unknown injuries on I-75 MM 318 northbound on-ramp Resaca. According to the report, “Upon arrival, Deputy Bingiel was flagged down by three male subjects who stated that it was not only one tractor-trailer involved but two, and they did not know where the vehicle that hit them had gone. The first driver stated that the rear bumper of the vehicle that hit them had fallen off, and it still had the Georgia tag attached to it. Deputy Bingiel notified dispatch of the Tag #RPD7662 to which it returned back on Silver in color Dodge Dakota. Deputy Bingiel advised dispatch to give a lookout to Georgia State Patrol and Whitfield County for this vehicle with damage to the rear of the vehicle. Deputy P. Lively arrived on scene shortly after and began speaking with both of the drivers from the tractor-trailers. Deputy Bingiel was notified by dispatch that a subject called in stating he had been involved in an accident on I-75 and pulled into the Pilot Truck Stop located at 2111 US Highway 41 North.” Deputy Bingiel made contact with Jason Andrew Pellom, 33, of Dalton, and observed a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath. Pellom stated as he was getting onto I-75, his truck began to hydroplane, causing him to strike the tractor-trailer. Pellom stated that he panicked and then drove down the ramp on the wrong side of the road in order to get back to the Pilot truck stop. Pellom was asked and stated he only had approximately 3-4 beers before driving. Pellom showed several signs of impairment and was placed under arrest for DUI. Pellom was booked into to the Gordon County Jail, where he was charged with DUI, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, and reckless driving.
