Chattooga County Corporal heading into work stops Detroit man on violent early morning crime spree

According to a Chattooga County Sheriffs Office incident report, on Feb. 4th 2023, at 6:45 AM, Corporal Nicole Flood was traveling into work in Chattooga County from Walker County when she heard reports of a man later identified as Darell Leis Thomas, 27, of Detroit, MI, standing in the middle of Hwy. 27 near the Family Dollar trying to carjack vehicles stopped in traffic. Moments later, Flood heard Thomas trying to enter and carjack vehicles near the Circle K gas station. Then, reports came in that Thomas attempted to carjack a woman’s car near Little Caesar’s. According to the report, Deputy Flood found Thomas running northbound on Hwy. 27 and got him to stop. Flood gave verbal commands for Thomas to show his hands, and he complied. However, Thomas lunged aggressively toward Flood’s patrol vehicle several times “like he was going to take [her] patrol truck.” Thomas was quickly detained and placed under arrest. Thomas was booked into the Chattooga County Jai, and charged with entering an automobile x2, motor vehicle hijacking/carjacking x2, and assault.
