Rockmart woman found in possession of marijuana and stolen gun after running stop sign in Floyd County

According to a Floyd County Police Department incident report, On February 4th, 2023, at 7:49 PM, Officer Carranza was parked at the intersection of Lombardy Way and Flannery Road when he observed a .black Camaro run the stop sign. Officer Carranza initiated my traffic stop and the black Camaro stop near Maple Road. The driver, identified as Jaweah Labryn Hamilton, 33, of Rockmart, showed to have everything valid. Officer Carranza reported, “[I] smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming out of the inside of the vehicle while talking to Mrs. Hamilton. [I] asked Mrs. Hamilton if she had smoked marijuana lately or if she had any with her. She advised she had smoked some earlier, and she might have had a roach. [I] asked her to get out of her vehicle and began searching her vehicle. While searching her vehicle, [I] noticed a black bag on the driver’s side floor mat. When [I] opened it, [I] saw a firearm. Dispatch advised that it was reported stolen.” She admitted it belonged to her. She said a friend of hers, Mr. Darius Watkins, had given it to her as a gift a long time ago. Hamilton was transported to the Floyd County Jail, where she was charged with running through the stop sign, not carrying her driver’s license while operating a vehicle, felony theft by receiving stolen property, and possession of marijuana less than 1 oz.
