According to a Floyd County Police Department incident report, On February 4th, 2023, while observing the intersection of Wilkerson and Williamson Road, Officer Vicente watched a Grey Nissan stop in the middle of the intersection and stayed there for approximately 10 seconds before it continued to drive down Wilkerson Road eastbound. Officer Vicente reported, “[I] proceeded to follow the vehicle on Wilkerson Road and could observe that the driver was flashing the vehicle’s headlights as it was traveling down the road. Once [I] was able to get behind the vehicle, I activated my visible blue light and could observe that the vehicle began to move side to side and, at some point, cross the double yellow lines in the center of the road. As my lights were activated, the driver of the vehicle continued to drive at a slow rate of speed, eventually coming to a stop right before South Sycamore Street. As the vehicle came to a stop, [I] advised dispatch of the vehicle description, which was a grey Nissan Altima with a Texas license plate.” As Officer Vicente was approaching the vehicle, he could smell the strong odor of alcohol coming from inside the vehicle. The driver, identified as Ruben Yzaguirre Jr., 38, of Brownsville, Texas, stated that he did not have his license on him, but he did have his identification card. Yzaguirre stated that he was looking for his hotel on Hobson Way. Officer Quijada responded to the scene to assist. Officer Vicente asked Yzaguirre if he had anything to drink, and he stated that he had only had 2 or 3 beers. During field sobriety testing, Yzaguirre showed several signs of impairment. Yzaguirre was then placed under arrest for Driving under the influence of alcohol and refused the state test. Yzaguirre was booked into the Floyd County Jail and charged with DUI.
