Chattanooga man arrested for DUI after speeding on I-75 in Gordon County

According to a Georgia State Patrol incident report, On April 9th, 2023, at approximately 7:39 PM, Trooper Mefford was stationary on 1-75 northbound at 309 when he observed a 2018 Jeep Wrangler speeding at 89 MPH in a 70 MPH speed zone. Trooper Mefford initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Chase Warner, 36, of Chattanooga. Trooper Mefford reported, “[I] advised him the reason that [I] had stopped him. As [I] was explaining the reason for the stop, [I] smelled a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from within the vehicle. [I] asked Mr. Warner where he was coming from. He advised that he was coming from Kennesaw, GA. He stated that he was celebrating Easter with his family. [I] asked him how much he had to drink. He stated that he only had a couple of beers.” He then stated later that he had three beers. During Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, Warner showed several signs of impairment and a BAC of .088 on a PBT. Warner was placed under arrest and agreed to the state testing of his blood. Warner was then transported to the Gordon County Jail, charged with speeding and DUI.
