Calhoun man arrested for DUI after plowing into several parked vehicles in Resaca

According to a Gordon County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On Wednesday, September 20th, 2023, at 11:59 PM, Deputy Phillips was dispatched to Resaca Beach Blvd at Battlefield Parkway in reference to a vehicle crash. Deputy Phillips observed a black Chevrolet Malibu with major damage that struck multiple unoccupied vehicles in the parking lot of Carroll’s Garage (3015 Battlefield Pkwy). Deputy Phillips then spoke with the driver, Michael Crandell, 60, of Calhoun. According to the report, “Upon speaking with Michael, Deputy Phillips observed an odor of alcohol coming from Michael. Michael’s speech was slurred he had bloodshot eyes and could hardly keep his balance when speaking with Deputy Phillips. When asked, Michael stated he only had three shots of patron in Dalton. Deputy Phillips asked Michael if he was willing to do Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. Michael said, “No, just take me to jail.” Michael was placed under arrest and refused the state test. Deputy Phillips found that Michael had a suspended license for DUI. Michael was then transported to the Gordon County Jail, charged with DUI, driving while suspended, failure to stop at a stop sign, too fast for conditions, and failure to maintain lane.
