Calhoun man arrested after violently assaulting girlfriend in front of kids during domestic

According to a Gordon County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On Monday, May 29th, 2023, at 2:08 AM, Deputy Newport and Deputy Morse responded to 2700 U.S. 41 North (Gordon County Sheriff’s Office Lobby) to speak with a victim in reference to a domestic violence report. The victim stated that she was assaulted by her ex-boyfriend Jose Luis Leon, 30, of Calhoun because he saw a posting on Instagram and Messenger of a conversation between her and someone else. The victim stated Leon began yelling at her, and she refused to answer him. According to the report, “The victim advised Leon then immediately grabbed her by the throat and shoved her into the drywall. The victim stated that she then fell to the ground, at which point Leon began violently striking her all over her body.” The victim stated she was having difficulties breathing during the assault. As the victim was attempting to run for life, Leon chased her outside and shoved her into a brick wall resulting in the rear portion of her head slamming into the brick wall. The victim also stated that her children watched the whole thing in horror. Deputy Newport took out state warrants for aggravated assault (FVA), battery (FVA), criminal trespass (FVA), and cruelty to children 3rd degree x2. On June 4th, 2023, Leon was arrested and booked into the Gordon County Jail.
