Wanted felon found in possession of gun and drugs after GSP ends motorcycle pursuit on I-75

According to a Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On January 15th, 2023, at 3:03 PM, Deputy Harris was sitting stationary on Interstate 75 south near mile marker 348 in his clearly marked agency vehicle. Deputy Harris then observed a 2009 Suzuki GSX R1000 pass him without a tag displayed on the back. According to the report, “Deputy Harris attempted to stop the motorcycle. Deputy Harris noticed that the motorcyclist, later identified as Caleb Alexander Johnston, 28, of Ringgold, did not appear to be stopping and activated his sirens. Johnston continued to drive south on Interstate 75 in the middle lane and, at one point, looked back at Deputy Harris before getting into the left lane. Deputy Harris advised Catoosa County Dispatch that he was in pursuit of the motorcycle. ” The pursuit continued southbound on interstate 75 until mile marker 330 when Georgia State Patrol Sgt. Boyd joined the pursuit, taking the primary position and forcing Johnston onto the shoulder of the interstate. Deputy Harris and Trooper Boyd quickly took Johnston to the ground to place him under arrest. During a search, deputies located a loaded Tauras G2C 9mm handgun, magazines, 28 rounds of ammunition for the handgun, baggies of meth, and marijuana in Johnston’s backpack. Johnston’s diver’s license was checked through NCIC/GCIC, and he was found to have a suspended driver’s license through Georgia. He also showed several felony warrants through Catoosa County and Whitfield County. One warrant for felony probation violation. Johnston was also found to be a convicted felon. Johnston was booked into the Catoosa County Jail, charged with operating a motor vehicle with suspended, canceled or revoked registration, driving while license suspended or revoked, pursuit fleeing or attempting to elude police officer, display of license plates, felony theft by taking, felony possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug-related objects, possession of firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies by a convicted felon, possession of firearms-convicted felons, felony wanted by other agency, felony probation violation x2.
