Unlicensed drunk driver arrested after weaving all over the roadway in Dalton

According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, On July 4th, 2023, at 11:00 PM, Officer Warren was patrolling the area of North Glenwood Ave. When he stopped a Ford Explorer, he observed weaving and making an erratic lane change. Officer Warren made contact with the driver of the vehicle, Samuel Nolasco Perez, 19, of Dalton, and another occupant, Yener Aguilar. Both males only spoke Spanish. Officer Warren translated to communicate with them. Samuel apologized for the infractions. Officer Warren reported, “[I] detected a very strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from within the vehicle. [I] further observed that both males had heavily slurred speech as well as bloodshot and drooping eyes. [I] then asked Samuel how much he had had to drink. Samuel stated, “4, 5, maybe 6” drinks. Samuel claimed he and Yener had been drinking at a friend’s house and that he was just trying to get home. Samuel then informed me that he did not possess a valid driver’s license. [I] asked Samuel, “You are not okay to drive?”. Samuel stated, “I am not”. [I] then asked Samuel if he believed he was currently drunk. Samuel stated, “Yeah”.” During field sobriety tests, Samuel showed several signs of impairment and showed a BAC of .206 on a PBT. The legal limit for drivers under the age of 21 is 0.02. Samuel was placed under arrest for DUI. Officers located an opened Corona beer bottle in the cup holder. Samuel was transported to the Whitfield County Jail, where he showed a BAC of .215 on the state test. He was charged with DUI under the age of 21 0.02% or above, driving while unlicensed, and failure to maintain lane.
