Unlicensed and uninsured drunk driver arrested after being stopped for no headlights in Dalton

According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, On June 13th, 2023, at 12:56 AM, Officer Marcus was stationary at Riverbend Road and East Walnut Avenue when he observed a Mercedes driving without any headlights on. Officer Marcus initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, David Estrada Jr., 19, of Dalton. Officer Marcus reported, “[I] could observe a half-empty case of beer in David’s backseat. [I] could also detect the odor of alcohol coming from David’s vehicle. [I] asked David how much he had to drink. David stated that he only had one beer. [I] asked David to step out of the vehicle. Once David was out of the vehicle, [I] could smell the odor of alcohol coming directly from him. David was unstable and stumbled several times.” During field sobriety tests, David showed several signs of impairment and showed positive for alcohol on a PBT. David was placed under arrest for DUI and agreed to the state test. Officer Marcus also found that David was unlicensed and that the tag that was on David’s vehicle was registered to a previous vehicle. David was booked into the Whitfield County Jail, where he showed a BAC of .274 on the state test. David was charged with DUI under 21, no insurance, improper transfer of tag, driving while unlicensed, and no headlights.
