Tunnel Hill woman arrested for DUI after being found parked in the center lane on Chattanooga Road

According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On June 3rd, 2023, at 1:03 AM, Deputy Halpin was traveling North on Chattanooga Road and noticed a white vehicle in the center lane parked facing North just south of the intersection of Willowdale Road and North of the intersection of King Road. According to the report, “Deputy Halpin parked behind the vehicle and initiated his emergency lights and noticed the driver was startled by the emergency lights. Before exiting his patrol vehicle, Deputy Halpin ran the Toyota Four Runner Georgia Tag SAP8101 and showed that the registration was suspended and that there was no valid insurance on the vehicle.” Deputy Halpin made contact with the driver, later identified as Elaince Dickie Warnix, 28, of Tunnel Hill, and asked why she was parked in the center lane of Chattanooga Road. Warnix explained her tire light came on, and she was afraid to drive anymore, so she immediately pulled over. While talking to Warnix, Deputy Halpin noticed her eyes were glassy looking, and her speech was slightly slurred. Deputy Halpin asked where she was coming from, and she stated from downtown. Deputy Halpin advised Warnix that due to her insurance not being valid that she was not going to be able to drive the vehicle home and that it would have to be towed. Deputy Halpin asked Warnix if she had anything to drink tonight, and she stated she only had one drink. During Field Sobriety Testing, Warnix showed several signs of impairment and a BAC of .170 on a PBT. Warnix was placed under arrest for DUI and agreed to the state test. Warnix was transported to the Whitfield County Jail, where she showed a BAC of .213. Warnix was charged with DUI and no insurance.
