Dalton man arrested for DUI after driving erratic on Chattanooga Road in Dalton

According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On June 3rd, 2023, Deputy Figg was traveling north on Chattanooga Road approaching Shugart Road. Deputy Figg stopped a Nissan Xterra slow, erratic, and all over the roadway. Deputy Figg made contact with the driver, Gary Scott Greenway, 64, of Dalton, and explained the reason for the traffic stop. According to the report, “Deputy Figg observed Gary had very slurred speech which was also thick speech. Deputy Figg also observed Gary had very bloodshot eyes. Deputy Figg asked Gary if he had been drinking. Gary stated he had just left the Waffle House and was okay. Deputy Figg asked Gary again if he had been drinking. This time Gary stated he had taken a nap. When he woke up, he was hungry and went to the Waffle House to get something to eat.” During field sobriety tests, Gary showed several signs of impairment and was placed under arrest. While Deputy Figg was reading implied consent, Gary was very agitated and began cussing out Deputy Figg. Gary agreed to the state test and showed a BAC of .158 at the Whitfield County Jail. Gary was charged with DUI.
