Dalton man arrested for DUI after running stop sign and failing to maintain lane in Whitfield County

According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On June 3rd, 2023, Deputy Phillips was stationary at Antioch Baptist Church (1525 Antioch Rd) observing traffic when a Black Ford F150 failed to stop at the stop sign. Deputy Phillips followed the vehicle and observed the vehicle failing to maintain a single lane. Deputy Conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as Edy Ibarra Rendon Triana, 39, of Dalton. According to the report, “Deputy Phillips observed a spilled Modello beer directly behind the driver’s seat. Deputy Phillips then got closer to the driver’s window and detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage that was coming from the vehicle. Deputy Phillips then asked Edy for his driver’s license and asked about the open container on the rear floorboard. Edy stated it was Luis Fraire’s. Deputy Phillips then asked Edy to exit the vehicle and asked how many drinks he had had today, and he replied none. After removing Edy from the vehicle, Deputy Phillips detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Edy’s breath. Deputy Phillips could also observe Edy was sweating from his forehead. Deputy Phillips then asked when was the last time he had any alcohol. Edy stated he drank two beers yesterday around 6:00 PM.” During Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, Edy showed several signs of impairment and showed a BAC of .104. Deputy Phillips could also observe Edy’s crotch area being wet with a liquid. According to the report, “Deputy Phillips located an open container of Modello in the floorboard of the front passenger seat. Deputy Phillips also located two open containers of Modello in the center console of the vehicle that still had alcohol. Deputy Phillips located two unopened containers of alcoholic beverages in a black bag in the center console, along with an unopened Modello. Deputy Phillips found a case of Modello on the floor on the passenger side that had five unopened Modello in it, and Deputy Phillips felt these unopened Modellos were still cold to the touch. Deputy Phillips then located an unopened Modello near the driver’s seat. Deputy Phillips then opened the rear driver door, and a Modello containing alcohol fell out, and Deputy Phillips located the first Modello, which still had alcohol in it.” Edy refused the state test and was booked into the Whitfield County Jail, charged with DUI, stop sign violation, failing to maintain lane and open container.
