Trion man arrested for DUI after getting stuck in ditch in Chattooga County

According to a Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On Sunday, January 8th, 2023, at 9:03 PM, Cpl. Corey Fielding, along with Deputy Julian Smith, responded to the intersection of Highway 27 at Stoleman Road in reference to a possible vehicle crash. Cpl. Fielding observed a vehicle off the roadway that appeared to be stuck in the ditch, with the rear of the vehicle resting against an embankment. Cpl. Fielding reported, “While on the scene, [I] then made contact with the driver of the vehicle, who was later identified as Jeffrey Allen DeBoard, 60, of Trion. While speaking to Mr. DeBoard, [I] observed the odor of an alcoholic beverage upon his breath, [I] also observed that Mr. DeBoard’s speech was slurred, [I] then asked Mr. DeBoard how much he had to drink, and he advised me “Too Much”. While speaking further to Mr. DeBoard, [I] then asked him how many alcoholic beverages he had consumed, and he advised me eight beers.” DeBoard refused Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and was taken into custody for DUI-Alcohol/Less Safe. DeBoard’s vehicle registration expired on April 3rd, 2020. Deboard was transported to the Chattooga County Jail, charged with DUI, failure to change address within 60 days, and an expired tag.
