Summerville teen arrested for DUI at sobriety checkpoint in Chattooga County

According to a Georgia State Patrol incident report, On June 16th, 2023, at 8:25 PM, Corporal Flowers and Cadet McGuire and Two Chattooga County Deputies were conducting an approved Sobriety Check at the intersection of Cloudland Road and Broth Drive. Corporal Flowers made contact with the driver of a red Ford Escape at the Sobriety Check. The driver was identified as James William Wester, 19, of Summerville. Corporal Flowers reported, “While talking to Mr, Wester, [I] noticed an extremely strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from within the vehicle. [I] asked Mr. Wester if there were any marijuana inside the vehicle, and he reached over to the center console and handed me a small bag of marijuana [I] advised Mr. Wester to pull over to the right and exit the vehicle. [I] asked Mr. Wester if he had smoked any marijuana today, and he stated he did about 30 minutes ago at his Aunt’s residence. [I] noticed his eyes were bloodshot and watery, he had eyelid tremors, and his tongue was discolored with raised taste buds.” During field sobriety testing, Wester showed several signs of marijuana impairment. Wester was placed under arrest for DUI and agreed to the state test. The trooper checked the windows with his state-issued Tint Meter (Showed 5 percent). Wester was then transported to the Chattooga County Jail, charged with DUI and window tint.
