Summerville man arrested for DUI after speeding on Mahan Road in Chattooga County

According to a Georgia State Patrol incident report, On May 17th, 2023, at 5:35 PM, Sgt. Shamblin was operating stationary RADAR on Mahan Road in Chattooga County when he observed a red Chevrolet Colorado speeding at 64 mph in a 45 mph zone. Sgt. Shamblin reported, “[I] then proceeded toward the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. As I was behind the vehicle with blue lights activated, the driver began to move around a lot inside the vehicle and traveled partially into the other lane of travel. The driver then turned into a private driveway and stopped. [I] exited my vehicle and made an approach to the driver’s door. I noticed as the driver had lit a cigarette and awaited my instruction. While speaking to Hughston Isaiah Bagley, 31, of Summerville, [I] noticed his eyes to be watery and bloodshot. []I also noticed a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from his breath as we spoke. [I] asked Bagley how much he had been drinking, and he stated, “A beer or two”. [I] also noticed at his feet in the driver’s floorboard a Mike’s Hard Lemonade Black Cherry Beer that was opened and had spilled into the floorboard. [I] had Bagley exit the vehicle and step to the rear. [I] asked Bagley if he would perform field sobriety tests. Bagley pleaded for me to let him stay at the residence and said that he would never do it again. Bagley refused a preliminary breath test on the alco-sensor and showed several signs during field sobriety tests. Bagley was then placed under arrest for DUI and refused the state test by stating, “Hell no!”. Bagley was transported to the Chattooga County Jail, charged with speeding, open container, and DUI.
