South Carolina man arrested for DUI after failing to maintain lane on I-75 in Whitfield County

According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On April 14th, 2023, at 12:00 AM, Deputy Woods was patrolling the area of I-75 northbound when Deputy Woods observed a red Dodge Avenger SC Tag failing to maintain their lane. Deputy Woods then initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle on Chattanooga Road near North Tibbs Road. Deputy Woods made contact with the operator of the vehicle, later to be identified as Jerome Lee Torrence, 47, of Dillon, South Carolina. According to the report, “Deputy Woods immediately smelt the odor of alcoholic beverages coming from Mr. Torrence’s person. Deputy Woods asked both occupants if they had consumed any alcoholic beverages, and both subjects informed Deputy Woods that they both had.” During Field Sobriety Test’s, Torrence showed several signs of impairment and a BAC of .213 PBT. Torrence was refused the state test and was booked into the Whitfield County Jail, charged with DUI, and failing to maintain a single.
