Dalton man arrested for DUI after crashing into tree on East Ezzard Ave

According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On April 14th, 2023, at 11:27 PM, Deputy Figg responded to a vehicle versus tree at 200 East Ezzard Ave. Deputy Figg spoke with the driver, Joel Villeda, 25, of Dalton, who stated he was traveling south around the corner of E. Ezzard when he left the roadway, went into a ditch, and struck a tree. According to the report, “While Deputy Figg was speaking with Joel, Deputy Figg smelled a strong odor of some type of alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. Deputy Figg asked Joel if he had been drinking. Joel stated he had not been drinking. Deputy Figg requested Joel to step to the front of his patrol vehicle to take a series of field sobriety tests.” During tests, Joel showed several signs of impairment. Joel was taken into custody for DUI, and he agreed to the state test. Joel was transported to the Whitfield County Jail, where he showed a BAC of .144 on the state test. Joel was charged with driving too fast for condition and DUI.
