Unlicensed motorcyclist arrested for DUI after speeding on Cleveland Hwy in Whitfield County

According to a Georgia State Patrol incident report, On April 14th, 2023, at 9:21 PM, Sgt. Boyd stopped a 2014 Yamaha FZ09 motorcycle for speeding on GA-71 (Cleveland Hwy) near Williams Road in Whitfield County. Sgt. Boyd could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from the motorcyclist, identified as Garcia Gabriel, 32, of Dalton, breath along with him having bloodshot watery eyes and slurred speech. Sgt. Boyd requested the assistance of Trooper Caleb Crosswhite. Trooper Crosswhite reported, “[I] made contact with Mr. Garcia; [I] could immediately detect a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person. []I also noticed Mr. Garcia’s eyes were bloodshot and watery. Mr. Garcia appeared to have slurred speech. [I] inquired how much Mr. Garcia had to drink, and he stated a beer and shot, and the beer was 24oz. Mr. Garcia was also very talkative.” During Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, Garcia showed several signs of impairment and a BAC of .148. Garcia agreed to the state test and was booked into the Whitfield County Jail, charged with speeding, driving while unlicensed, and DUI.
