Rossville man arrested for cruelty to animals in Catoosa County

According to a Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On May 25th, 2023, Deputy North responded to Princess Lane in Rossville in reference to possible animal cruelty. Deputy North arrived and met with the complainant, who stated he got his son a dog; however, his son was too busy with activities to properly care for it. The complainant stated a maintenance worker for the mobile home park, identified as Jeremy L Burgess, 31, of Rossville, had shown a lot of interest in the dog. The complainant stated he wanted the dog to be properly cared for, so he gave the dog to Burgess on May 18th, 2023. The complainant was notified that the dog had been severely injured by Burgess’s other two dogs, and the offender did not take the dog for treatment. Deputy North spoke with a witness who works with Burgess in the mobile home park. The witness stated on the same day, Burgess got the dog, and he told the witness that the dog had been attacked by the other dogs. The witness stated Burgess said he would take the dog for treatment after work but played basketball instead. The witness stated approximately five days had passed, and Burgess had not taken the dog for treatment. The witness stated during this time, Burgess made multiple statements such as “I’m just waiting for the dog to die so I can put it in the trash”, and “When that dog dies, I’m going to feed it to my other dogs”. The witness stated he and the park manager went to Burgess’s residence and got the dog, at which time they took it for treatment. Deputy North did observe pictures of what appeared to be a very deep wound to the dog’s throat. On May 30th, 2023, Detective Jordan requested assistance in locating Burgess at Trace Lane. Deputy Stricklin located Burgess and took him into custody. Burgess was booked into the Catoosa County Jail and charged with cruelty to animals.
