Rome motorcyclist found with stolen wallet after crashing on Highway 293 in Floyd County

According to a Floyd County Police Department incident report, on February 23rd, 2023, at 5:07 PM, Officer Sangphim responded to GA-293 at Wildflower Road in reference to a vehicle crash where a motorcycle had crashed. Officer Sangphim made contact with Jackie Blane Tucker, 34, of Rome, who was the driver of the motorcycle. Officer Sangphim reported, “[I] had to ask the male multiple times for his driver’s license. He then took several moments digging through his wallet, looking for his license, and handed me a driver’s license with the name of Jerry Lorenzo. [I] looked at the picture and looked at the white male in front of me and did not believe the two to be the same. [I] then asked the male where his motorcycle license was, and he stated he did not have a motorcycle license. [I] asked the suspect how the accident occurred. He stated the vehicle he was following in traffic made a left turn without a signal. He then stated he wasn’t able to stop in time and lost control, leaving the roadway and crashing into the ditch. [I] noted that the suspect had a tag border that covered the decal on his tag. He was later advised that this was illegal and given a verbal warning for that offense. [I] then approached the suspect with my citation book and asked him for his date of birth. He gave me a DOB of 11/21/88, which did not match the license he gave me. Given that the male was already driving while unlicensed, [I] placed him under arrest.” Tucker then stated he had given me the wrong license by mistake and that Jerry Lorenzo was his buddy who was currently in jail. Tucker was eventually identified as Jackie Tucker. Officers then recovered two marijuana gummies from Tucker’s watch pocket. He then admitted that he did not know Jerry Lorenzo and that someone had given him the wallet. He later recanted this when he told Lt. Hovers that he found the wallet at Allatoona Lake. [I] asked Tucker why he didn’t turn the wallet and ID in, and he stated he didn’t trust the police but knew he should have. Officers then asked him what he would want someone to do if they found his wallet, and he stated to return it. The victim, Jerry Lorenzo, stated he lost his wallet while fishing at Allatoona lake a few months ago. He stated he did not know Jackie Tucker and that he did not have permission to have his wallet. After receiving medical clearance from Floyd Medical Center, Tucker was transported to the Floyd County Jail and charged with theft of lost/mislaid property, driving without a license, too fast for conditions, failure to maintain lane, following too closely, and giving a false name, address, or birthdate to a law enforcement officer.
