Rome man arrested for DUI after crashing on Highway 140 in Floyd County

According to a Floyd County Police Department incident report, On May 23rd, 2023, at 6:30 PM, Officer Forrister responded to a vehicle crash that had occurred on GA 140 near its intersection with Old Dalton Road to assist Officer A. Masciovechio and Officer Evans. While en route to this location, it was put across the radio that the male had left the scene, and it had been implied that open containers of alcohol had been seen inside the vehicle. The driver (Michael Berry McCauley, 47, of Rome) had been found by Officer Evans on foot near Turner Road. Officer Forrister reported, “While speaking with McCauley, [I] did ask about prescription or recreational drug use, and he did inform me that he had taken Vistaril, Zyprexa, and Adderall at approximately 2:00 PM. McCauley implied these were prescribed medications. At this point, due to the motor vehicle accident and McCauley making the statements of using the medication, [I] did ask to perform Standardized field sobriety. McCauley was asked about his ability to perform the exams, and he did agree he was capable of doing them.” During testing, McCauley showed several signs of impairment. McCauley refused the state testing and was transported to the Floyd ER to be cleared. McCauley informed the officer that he had taken three Zyprexa ( 20 MG ), one Adderall (20 MG), and one Visaril ( dosage unknown). McCauley did advise that three Zyprexa is more than the amount that the doctor instructed him to take. While speaking with medical staff, McCauley would decline to faint or fall asleep at the wheel but did imply that something had happened. Officer Forrister reported, “During the interaction at FMC, McCauley did refuse to take a urine sample for the medical staff. I did ask McCauley if the reason he was refusing the urine sample was that he feared the results could be used against him in court, and he did advise, ” yes sir”.”
