Rock Spring man arrested for DUI after leaving bar and speeding in Walker County

According to a Walker County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On November 12th, 2022, at 11:28 PM, Deputy Durham was stationary, running radar in the area of Highway 27 and North Long Hollow Road, when he observed a 2008 Honda Civic speeding at 85mph. Deputy Durham reported, “[I] entered the roadway behind the vehicle and observed its driving. The vehicle was swerving within its lane, still traveling in excess of the speed limit. [I] then activated my emergency equipment and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle in front of the McDonald’s in Chickamauga. The vehicle continued traveling on Hwy 27 and came to a stop in front of the Shaw Plant. The vehicle hit the curb multiple times when coming to a stop.” Deputy Durham then made contact with the driver, Nathan Edward Coker, 23, of Rock Spring, who advised he did not realize he was traveling that fast. While speaking to the driver, the deputy detected the strong odor of alcoholic beverages coming from his breath. Coker stated that he had only consumed two beverages at a bar in Chattanooga. During field sobriety testing, Coker showed several signs of impairment and was placed under arrest for DUI. Coker agreed to the state test. Coker was booked into the Walker County Jail and charged with speeding and DUI.
