Two-vehicle crash claims the lives of two Friday in Murray County
According to a Georgia State Patrol crash report, on Friday, August 28th, 2020, at around a 2008 Jeep Liberty being driven by Magen Michelle James, 32 of Ellijay, was traveling north on Old Highway 411. A 2019 Dodge Ram 1500, being driven by Brandon West, 47 of Ellijay, was traveling south on Old Highway 411. James was negotiating a right curve when she left the roadway off of the east shoulder with the passenger-side tires and traveled approximately 89.1 feet. James over-corrected and reentered the roadway. The Jeep rotated counterclockwise and traveled approximately 62.2 feet before striking the front of the Dodge, with the passenger side of the Jeep. After the initial impact, the Jeep rotated clockwise and traveled approximately 37 feet backward, before coming to an uncontrolled rest off of the west shoulder of Old Highway 411, facing northeast. The Dodge, after the initial impact, traveled 13.7 feet from the area of impact before coming to a controlled rest facing south in the southbound traffic lane of Old Highway 411. The area of impact was determined by tire tracks in the grass, roadway scars, roadway debris, and the driver of Dodge's statement. The driver of Dodge, Mr. West, stated that when he first saw he Jeep that it was sideways and that he did not even have time to hit his brakes before impact. The driver of the Jeep Megan James and passenger Katey Glover sustained fatal injuries in the crash. The driver of the Dodge Ram Brandon West was suffered minor injuries in the crash and was transported by EMS to Advent Health in Murray. According to an online obituary both Glover and James were in a relationship and were mangers at Taco Bell in Ellijay.
