Tunnel Hill man arrested after shoplifting beer and other items from Walmart
On Saturday, December 28, 2019, at about 10:43 P.M., A Whitfield County Deputy responded to the business of Walmart located at 2545 East Walnut Avenue, in reference to a shoplifting. At the location, the deputy met with Walmart's Asset Prevention Associate and the suspected shoplifter in custody who was identified by a photo sheet which was provided by Walmart of James Acelinger, 53 Tunnel Hill. The AP Associate advised the deputy that he witnessed Acelinger pick up a backpack and start placing unpaid merchandise in the bag. Acelinger did take out most of the items but kept an Icehouse beer in the bag. Acelinger had in his possession $41.72 worth of merchandise, which was collected and returned to Walmart. Acelinger was also told that he had been trespassed from the property of Walmart since this was his 5+ offense. According to the report with the set of facts and circumstances, the deputy reasonably believed that the violation of theft by shoplifting was committed by Acelinger. Therefore he was taken into custody and transported to the Whitfield County Sheriff's Office Jail. Acelinger was charged with theft by shoplifting and criminal trespass, both misdemeanors on warrantless.
