Ringgold man shoves LP associates and runs from officers after shoplifting from Dalton Walmart

According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, on October 10th, 2020, Officer Avila and Officer Hughes responded to the Walmart located at 815 Shugart Road in reference to a shoplifting. Officer Hughes informed units responding that the suspect, later identified as Jacob Cody Moser, 29 of Ringgold, was fleeing on foot towards the wooded area between Walmart and Academy parking lot. Officer Hughes informed Dalton PD officers, Jacob was a white male wearing a green shirt and jeans. Officer Hughes recovered the items Jacob dropped when he began to flee. Officer Avila arrived at the Academy parking lot to locate the suspect. A passerby was pointing the officer towards the direction of Khol's parking lot. At the same time Sgt. Zimmerman informed units over the radio Jacob was running in the Khol's parking lot. Sgt Zimmerman informed the units Jacob was in the bed of a silver pickup in Khol's parking lot. Sgt Zimmerman approached the silver pickup with his patrol car while Officer Avila was driving to his location. Officer Avila reported, "[I] then observed a white male in a green shirt and jeans jump out of the bed of a silver pickup truck, the suspect then attempted to enter the vehicle, and the driver began to drive off dragging the suspect." The driver of the vehicle stopped, and Jacob let go. Jacob began to run towards Shugart Road without regard to traffic. Sgt Zimmerman pursued Jacob on foot, where Officer Mefford and Officer Avila surrounded Jacob on Shugart Road. Officers were informed Jacob pushed loss prevention employee's away when they attempted to stop him from exiting Walmart with a jacket and trail camera without paying. Jacob was transported to the Whitfield County Jail charged with simple battery, shoplifting less than 300.00, hijacking a motor vehicle, theft by taking, larceny, theft of auto, theft by taking, larceny, other, simple assault, simple battery, and criminal attempt, and obstruction of law enforcement officers.
