Local Georgia State trooper awarded trooper of the year for the state of Georgia

Local Georgia State Trooper was awarded Trooper of the year for the Georgia State Patrol. TFC3 John Stanley Smith (GSP 811) of Rome Post 38 in Troop A was recently honored with the award. Trooper Smith works both Chattooga and Floyd Counties. Trooper Smith is a native of Chattooga County. Prior to joining the GSP, Smith was a deputy sheriff in Chattooga County for 22 years. This award is chosen from the Georgia State Patrol Trooper Outstanding Achievement Award recipients. Georgia State Patrol Trooper Outstanding Achievement Award is presented annually to a Trooper who has displayed initiative, leadership, character, integrity, and whose outstanding work performance has exemplified the Department’s core values. Last year Smith made more than 1,100 contacts — surpassing the next closest trooper by more than 400.
