Area Walmart toy claw machines broken into, hundreds in cash stolen
According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, on Monday, February 17th, 2020 at 8:18 AM, an officer was dispatched to 815 Shugart Road, Walmart, in reference to a theft. Upon arrival the officer made contact with the complainant who stated that $123 had been taken out of the money storage compartment of the NAMCO claw game machines inside the Walmart. He advised that the last time he had checked on the machines was the last Thursday, on the 13th. He advised that someone has picked the lock on the machines and advised that the lock would have to be picked in a certain sequence in order to get access to the money compartment without the key. The complainant advised that multiple Walmart stores have had this problem in the past week. According to the report the officer was going to get with Walmart LP and get footage from the theft. According to a Chattooga County Sheriff's Office incident report, the same complainant who is a vendor called the Sheriff’s office on Wednesday to report a theft at the Walmart located at 13427 Highway 27. He told the reporting deputy that someone had stolen $74 from one machine and $55 from another for a total of $129. He advised he has toy machines located at each entrance to the store. The complainant told the deputy that the Trion Walmart was the eighth store on his route to be hit by thieves. According to the report the incident was turned over to an investigator.
