LaFayette woman arrested for DUI after 911 call from concerned citizen in Dalton

According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, On February 18th, 2023, at around 2:58 PM, Officer Johnson was dispatched to 1235 North Glenwood Avenue Los Reyes parking lot for a woman unconscious in the driver seat of a white Honda. Officer Johnson reported, “[I] parked behind the white Honda and approached the vehicle’s driver-side door. I observed that the driver, later identified as Tara Michele Gowin, 52, of LaFayette, was moving around in the driver’s seat. [I] was about to knock on the window to get Gowin’s attention when Gowin placed the white Honda into the drive and pulled forward through the parking spot, and sped away from me. The white Honda rear tire almost ran over my right foot when it pulled off. [I] yelled for Gowin to stop the white Honda.” Gowin stopped the vehicle about 75ft from where the officer was standing. Gowin then sped off, pulling away again, heading to the traffic light to exit the Kroger parking lot. The 911 caller stated they observed Gowin downing alcoholic drinks in Los Reyes in the past hour and believed she was drunk. Officers were eventually able to get her stopped and made contact with Gowin. Officer Johnson reported he could detect an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from inside the vehicle. The officer also noticed that Gowin’s eyes were red and glassy. Gowin stated that she only had one drink at lunch. Officer Johnson reported, “Gowin advised that she did not see me when [I] was next to her vehicle or when [I] was yelling for her to stop her vehicle. [I] again smelled an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Gowin’s breath.” During standardized field sobriety tests, Gowing showed several signs of impairment and a BAC of .104 on a PBT. Gowing was transported to the Whitfield County Jail, where she showed a BAC of .116 on the state test. She was charged with DUI.
