Dalton teen arrested for DUI after failing to maintain a single lane in Gordon County

According to a Georgia State Patrol incident report, On April 30th, 2023, at 1:13 AM, Trooper Story observed a gray Honda Civic failing to maintain its lane by crossing over the lines of the roadway. She initiated a traffic stop and attempted to inform the driver (Robert Tyler Wilbanks, 18, of Dalton) of the reason for the stop. Trooper Story reported, “This is where the driver immediately asked, “I didn’t do nothing wrong; I don’t know why I’ve been pulled over.” After the driver stopped talking, [I] was able to inform him why he was being stopped. [I] asked Mr. Wilbanks where he was coming from, and he advised Cohutta, then Rome, to drop his buddy off and that he was headed back to Whitfield. [I] noticed Mr. Wilbanks had watery eyes, and his pupils were constricted. While still sitting in the car, Mr. Wilbanks kept advising me that he was not drunk and that he would take a DUI test. During field sobriety evaluations, Wilbanks showed several signs of impairment. Wilbanks was placed under arrest and agreed to the state test. Wilbanks was transported to Gordon County Jail, where he was booked and charged with DUI and failure to maintain a single lane.
