Dalton man arrested for DUI after crashing into parked vehicle on the side of the roadway in Whitfield County

According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On December 11th, 2022, at 8:12 PM, Deputy Kirby and Sgt. Southern responded to a dispatched call at 1053 Cavender Drive Southwest in reference to a vehicle crash. According to the report, “Deputy Kirby was advised by dispatch while en route that the caller stated that one of the drivers appeared to be intoxicated and was being told to stay at the scene. Upon arrival from Dug Gap Road, Deputy Kirby observed a black Toyota Camry on the left-hand side of the road facing the opposite direction from him. The Toyota Camry appeared to have been parked at the curb. Deputy Kirby also observed a maroon Honda Passport facing him in the center of the roadway that appeared to have struck the Toyota Camry.” The victim advised his vehicle was parked curbside of his residence when it was struck. Deputy Kirby then spoke with the other driver, identified as Kiet Von Tran, 54, of Dalton. According to the report, “Deputy Kirby observed Kiet to be unstable while standing still. Deputy Kirby asked Kiet for his Georgia driver’s license. Upon getting his license out of his wallet, Kiet attempted to hand his license to Deputy Kirby, but handed them in the wrong direction before handing them to Deputy Kirby. Deputy Kirby could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from Kiet’s breath. Deputy Kirby observed Kiet’s eyes to be glossy. Deputy Kirby separated Kiet from the group of people and asked Kiet how much he had to drink. Kiet responded, “I’m O.K.”. Deputy Kirby then asked if he had anything to drink. Kiet responded, “I only drink one bottle,” Deputy Kirby asked, ” A bottle of what?” Kiet responded, “Heineken”.” During field sobriety testing, Kiet showed several signs of impairment and was placed under arrest for DUI. Kiet was transported to the Whitfield County Jail, charged with DUI- less safe.
