Calhoun man arrested for DUI after driving all over the roadway on Highway 53

According to the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On Sunday, April 16th, 2023, at approximately 11:30 PM, Deputy Shipman was in the area of Public Safety Dr when he observed a white GMC Sierra pull into the park on Public Safety Dr turn quickly while spinning tires then leave the area. Deputy Shipman located the truck in the area of GA-53 and the South Calhoun Bypass. Deputy Shipman followed the vehicle east on GA-53, where he observed the truck failed to maintain its lane and drove off the right side of the roadway, nearly striking a mailbox. Deputy Shipman then initiated a traffic stop on the truck and made contact with the driver, identified as Joshua Phillip Mcentyre, 23, of Calhoun. According to the report, “Deputy Shipman immediately noticed Mr. Mcentyre’s eyes were extremely bloodshot and watery. Deputy Shipman then asked how many alcoholic beverages Mr. Mcentyre had consumed, and he stated that he had only drunk two 16-ounce Miller Lites. During Field Sobriety testing, Mcentyre showed several signs of impairment and a BAC of .207 Mcentyre was placed under and refused the state test. Mcentyre was transported to the Gordon County Jail and charged with DUI. While at the Jail, Mcentyre advised the deputy that he had actually consumed four “Irish Trashcans” at Applebees prior to driving.
