According to a Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On Feb. 13, 2023, at 1:40 PM, Deputy Jared Wilks saw a U-Haul rental truck speeding at 91 miles per hour on Hwy. 27 near Hunter Road. Deputy Wilks stopped the vehicle halfway up Taylor Ridge. The driver, Cathlin Turcanu, 21, with a Maryland address, stated he was from Romania and was heading to his temporary home in Mississippi. Deputy Wilks observed a small juvenile female sitting in between the driver’s seat and passenger seat without a seatbelt on. Turcanu was arrested and booked into the Chattooga County Jail, charged with speeding in excess of maximum limits, driving without a license and having a child in the vehicle without restraints.
