Chattooga deputy assaulted while arresting motorcyclists for driving reckless at 99 mph on Hwy 27

According to a Chattooga County Sheriffs Office incident reports, on Saturday, February 18th, 2023, at 7:50 PM, Deputy Jared Wilks checked two motorcycles driving by on radar at speeds of 99 miles per hour on Hwy. 27 near Scenic Hill Road. He was able to stop the bikes near Stoleman Road. Deputy Wilks could smell alcohol coming from both riders, Destiny Canaan Wright, 28, of LaFayette, and Jared Michael Hardin, 22, of Dalton. The pair admitted to only drinking two beers prior to the traffic stop. PBT tests showed the riders were under the legal limit. Hardin and Wright were placed into custody. While being arrested, Wright allegedly resisted arrest and kicked Deputy Wilks in the shin, yelled profanities, dropped her full weight to the ground and resisted being placed in the patrol vehicle. Hardin was booked into the Chattooga County Jail, charged with reckless driving and speeding. Wright was booked into the Chattooga County Jail, charged with reckless driving, speeding, simple battery against a law enforcement officer and obstruction of law enforcement officers.
