Dalton man arrested for reckless driving after racing at 115 mph on I-75 in Whitfield County

According to a Georgia State Patrol incident report, On January 28th, 2023, at about 6:50 PM, Cpl. Boyd was stationary in the parking lot of BP (1522 West Walnut Avenue). Cpl. Boyd reported, “[I] saw a grey 2022 Ford Mustang and black Dodge Challenger traveling west on Walnut Avenue. The Challenger appeared to be accelerating quickly. Both vehicles turned right onto I-75NB MM 333 On the Ramp. At about 6:54 PM, [I] saw the Mustang in the middle (#2) lane of travel and the Challenger in the right (#3) lane of travel, both traveling north on I-75, side by side. The Challenger accelerated initially, and then the Mustang accelerated. The Mustang reached speeds of 115 mph, confirmed by my RADAR readout. Both drivers (the Mustang and Challenger) showed disregard for the safety of the public motoring present at that time and themselves.” Cpl. Boyd initiated a traffic stop on the Mustang and the driver, Abraham Chris Portillo, 21, of Dalton. Portillo was asked how fast his speed had reached. Portillo advised like 100. Portillo was placed under arrest and transported to the Whitfield County Jail, charged with speeding, racing, and reckless driving.
