Wanted fugitive found in possession of meth while driving stolen vehicle in Floyd County

According to a Floyd County Police Department incident report, On June 12th, 2023, at 5:55 PM, Officer Sangphim and K-9 Lt. Hover were conducting patrol operations in the area of GA -53 near West Hermitage Road when they received a FLOCK Alert that a stolen vehicle was traveling in their direction. Officer Sangphim ran the tag and confirmed that the 2008 Chevy Impala was reported stolen out of Whitfield County. Officers located the vehicle going outbound on 53 and conducted a felony traffic stop on the vehicle on GA-53 at Shannon Road. The driver, identified as Nicholas Gene Ellison, 33, Homeless in Rome, was taken into custody. Nicholas then told officers that he believed he had active warrants for his arrest and that there would be a “meth” pipe in the vehicle. Lt. Hover did locate a glass pipe with a white powdery residue and a small bag of a crystal-like substance stated to be meth by Nicholas. Dispatch confirmed once more that the vehicle was reported stolen and that Nicholas had an active warrant for his arrest out of Whitfield County for felony theft by taking and a felony warrant out of Alabama. Nicholas stated to officers that he was supposed to have the vehicle back a “half day ago”, but also did not know how many days ago he borrowed the vehicle or what today was. Nicholas was transported to the Floyd County Jail, charged with possession of meth, felony theft by receiving stolen property, and fugitive from justice.
