Rome woman arrested for DUI after crashing into ditch and leaving the scene in Floyd County

According to a Georgia State Patrol incident report, On September 28th, 2023, at 4:35 PM, Corporal Flowers was patrolling on GA 1 near GA 156 when he noticed a white female on the east shoulder of GA 1, attempting to flag him down. The female stated she had just seen a black passenger car run off the roadway and struck a metal pole and a ditch. She stated the vehicle then returned back onto the roadway and continued traveling north on GA 1. Corporal Flowers reported, “[I] did notice tire marks in the ditch and a small metal pole at the edge of the driveway laying in the ditch. [I] asked her when this occurred, and she stated about 3-5 minutes ago. [I] then proceeded NB but wasn’t sure if [I] would be able to locate the vehicle. As soon as [I] entered Chattooga County, [I] noticed debris in the roadway and a tire that came from a passenger vehicle. [I] then noticed a black passenger car ahead of me that was unable to maintain its lane of travel. While approaching the vehicle from the rear, the vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway several times, crossed over into the left lane two times, and debris fell off the vehicle as it was traveling 45 mph. [I] realized this might be the vehicle [I] was looking for.” Corporal Flowers then conducted a traffic stop and noticed the front right tire was missing. Corporal Flowers made contact with the driver, identified as Holly Marisa Veal, 32, Rome, and immediately noticed a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her breath. Corporal Flowers asked her if she struck something a few minutes ago, and she stated she did, but she needed to leave. Corporal Flowers asked Veal if she had anything to drink that day, and she stated she only had two drinks before driving. Veal showed several signs of impairment during field sobriety tests and refused a PBT test. She refused the state test after being placed under arrest. Veal was booked into the Chattooga County Jail and charged with operating unsafe vehicle, DUI, driving without license on person, failure to stop after striking fixed object, and failure to maintain lane.
