Rome woman arrested for DUI after being stopped on the Bypass in Floyd County

According to a Floyd County Police Department incident report, On May 4th, 2023, at 11:47 PM, Officer Wright was conducting a traffic stop when a vehicle passed that had a noticeable strong odor of marijuana. The officer concluded the traffic stop and pursued the vehicle. Officer Wright stopped the vehicle on the Bypass and Blacks Bluff Road and made contact with the driver Samantha Chantal Stubbs, 32, of Rome. Officer Wright reported, “[I] informed Samantha when she passed by [I] could smell the odor of marijuana. Samantha stated she had just smoked marijuana in the vehicle.” During field sobriety tests, Samantha showed several signs of marijuana impairment. Officer Wright reported, “After concluding the basic field sobriety evaluations, [I] believed Samantha was too impaired to operate a vehicle safely on the roadway. [I] placed Samantha into handcuffs and read her implied consent. Samantha agreed to submit her blood for testing. A few minutes later, Samantha refused the implied consent for her blood. Samantha’s vehicle had a strong odor of marijuana which gave me probable cause to search her vehicle.” Samantha was transported to Floyd County Jail and charged with DUI.
