Rome man wanted for violently assaulting woman arrested after anonymous tip in Floyd County

A Rome man who was added to the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office’s Top 10 most wanted on February 24th, 2023, was apprehended at a gas station Monday following an anonymous tip. According to a Floyd County Police Department incident report, On February 27th, 2023, at 7:05 PM, Officer Sangphim and Officer Evans responded to Evans Gas Station at 5680 Alabama Hwy. Dispatch advised that an anonymous complainant advised that Michael Tyler Spears, 25, of Rome, was there wearing a white hoodie and black backpack and sitting at the Deli in the back of the store. Officer Sangphim reported, “[I] knew from our warrant log that Michael Spears had active felony warrants (battery, aggravated assault, and kidnapping) for his arrest, and Dispatch advised me of the same. Upon arrival, [I] observed a white male sitting with a backpack lying on the table. He had his back toward me. [I] approached the male and looked at his face, and believed him to be Michael Spears. [I] instructed the male to put his hands behind his back, [I] secured the male’s wrists, and OFC. Evans immediately placed the male into handcuffs. [I] asked the male what his name was, and he stated Michael Spears.” During a search of Michael, officers located meth. Michael was asked what it was he stated it was “meth”. According to the warrants, Micheal violently assaulted a woman in her face numerous times resulting in visible severe injuries. He also used his hands to strangle her to the point she lost consciousness. Michael was transported to the Floyd County Jail, where he was charged with aggravated assault, kidnapping, possession of methamphetamine, and two counts of battery.
