Rome man fires shots after assaulting 3-year-old child during violent domestic in Floyd County

According to a Floyd County Police Department incident report, On March 25th, 2023, at 2:04 AM, Officer Quijada was dispatched to an address on Harmony Road in reference to a violent domestic altercation involving a 3-year-old child that had been physically injured. While en route, dispatch advised that they could hear a male subject by the name of Gene Shelton Cadle, 24, of Rome, and the complainant arguing in the background. Dispatch then advised Cadle was drunk and also advised that he owned firearms but did not know where he had them at. Officer Quijada reported, “[I] OFC. Quijada arrived on the scene at approximately 02:17 hours. [I] parked my vehicle in the driveway next to the complainant’s residence to, which at the time [I] believed to be the complainants residence. [I] then proceeded to turn on my blue lights and exit my vehicle at approximately 2:18 hours. As [I] began walking toward the residence, [I] immediately heard 7 to 8 shot’s being fired from behind me, not knowing the exact location from were the shots were being fired from because of it being dark outside and the area being heavily surrounded by woods and trees [I] proceeded to take cover and walk away from the sound of the shot’s, while doing so [I] advised dispatch of shots fired and advised dispatch that [I] did not know were the shots were being fired from.” Officers were advised that Cadle was the one firing shots. Officer Quijada then heard several more shots being fired. Lt. Pendly, Officer Surret, Officer Vicente, and Officer Roubieu then arrived on the scene. The victim advised that she’s been split up with Cadle for about 8 months now. The victim stated Cadle came over drunk and is very violent when he is drunk. According to the report, The victim stated Cadle jumped on her, and she stated that he got mad when she told him to get off of her, and that set him off. The victim then stated that she went into the other bedroom and locked the door, to which she stated that Cadle followed her and began yelling and banging on the door. She then stated that she heard her daughter get thrown onto the floor and start crying in pain. The victim stated that when she went to check on her daughter Cadle was just there staring at her daughter without trying to help her and did not bother to check on her or pick her up from the floor. She stated that Cadle became enraged and started punching holes into the wall and throwing chairs. She then took her 3-year-old into the bathroom for safety. Cadle then began assaulting the child while the victim was holding her. Officers were able to see red marks on the child’s face from where Cadle had struck her. Warrants were issued for Cadle, and he was arrested on May 30th, 2023. Cadle was booked into the Floyd County Jail, charged with simple assault, reckless conduct, and cruelty to children 1st degree.
