Rome man arrested after altercation turns deadly in the parking lot of Kellogg’s Monday night

On June 12, 2023, at approximately 10:47 PM, Rome Police Department, GA officers responded to Kellogg on Old Lindale Road in reference to a reported shooting. Upon arrival, it was determined that one subject had been shot. Officers attempted to render first aid to the victim turning his care over to emergency medical personnel when they arrived. The victim was later pronounced dead. The suspect, 29-year-old Dekembe Devion Smith of a Leafmore Road address in Rome, called E911 after the altercation and reported he had shot the victim. They were in the parking lot of the complex when they became involved in an altercation. Both worked for Kellogg. The altercation had nothing to do with the company, and no other injuries were reported. The Rome Police Department Criminal Investigation Unit responded and took control of the investigation. The suspect has been charged with Homicide, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. The victim has been identified as 26-year-old Keion Tyjuan Harper of a Donley Drive address in Rome.
