Ringgold man arrested for DUI after driving all over the roadway in Rossville

According to a Rossville Police Department incident report, On August 24th, 2023, at 9:26 PM, while Sgt. Carter was traveling southbound on Chickamauga Avenue when he observed a 2013 Toyota Tacoma failing to maintain lane multiple times. Sgt. Carter reported, “The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed as it continued southbound on Chickamauga Avenue. When [I] activated my radar, it showed the vehicle going 52 MPH in a 40 MPH area. As we passed Hogan Road, there was an ambulance in the center turning lane of Chickamauga Avenue, and the vehicle failed to yield the right of way as it passed it. At that time, [I] initiated a traffic stop, and the vehicle pulled into the Mapco at 815 Chickamauga Avenue. As [I] approached the driver’s door, [I] could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from inside the vehicle.” The driver, identified as Corey Alan Coffelt, 32, of Ringgold, advised he was coming from the Brew-N-Cue and only had two beers while there. Corey stated he was now on his way home. Corey showed several signs of impairment and a BAC of .082 on a PBT. Corey was then placed under arrest and refused the state test by stating, “I am not doing any more tests”. Corey was then transported to the Walker County Jail where he was booked for DUI, failure to yield to emergency vehicle, and failure to maintain a single lane. Corey was then given an O/R bond and released.
