According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On August 4th, 2023, at around 10:21 PM, Deputy Spivey stopped a 2023 Dodge Charger speeding at 72 mph in a 45 mph zone on Chatsworth Hwy near Coahulla Creek. Deputy Sharpe responded to assist Deputy Spivey. Deputy Spivey smelled an alcoholic beverage omitted from the driver Brandon GeneMcNew, 29, of Missoula, Montana, breath. McNew did not know what state he was in at first. Deputy Sharpe could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage while speaking with McNew. McNew showed several signs of impairment and admitted to only drinking two beers in Murray County at a restaurant. McNew could not name the restaurant. McNew was placed under arrest and refused to answer. McNew was booked into the Whitfield County Jail, charged with speeding and DUI driving under the influence less safe.
