North Carolina man arrested for DUI after driving slow all over the roadway in Whitfield County

According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On November 3rd, 2022, at 12:48 AM, Deputy McKenzie was traveling south on Chattanooga Road when he observed a vehicle driving at a slow rate of speed northbound on Chattanooga Road. The vehicle continued moving at a slow rate of speed, failing to maintain its lane, and moving in and out of the middle emergency lane from the inside lane of Chattanooga Road. Deputy McKenzie initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, later identified as Robert Jhon Brown, 68, of Maggie Valley, North Carolina. According to the report, “Deputy McKenzie smelt the odor of alcohol coming from the driver’s open window. After speaking with Mr. Brown, Deputy Mckenzie found Mr. Brown’s speech to be slurred and observed his eyes to be glossy. When questioned if Mr. Brown had anything to drink tonight, he admitted he did have one shot of vodka today while driving down the roadway. Mr. Brown did not know where he was located. He believed he was half a mile from his residence in Maggie Valley, North Carolina. Mr. Brown’s residence is approximately three hours away from this location.” Field sobriety tests were stopped for the safety of brown after he almost fell over. Brown showed a BAC of .302 on a PBT and was placed under arrest for DUI driving while under the influence of alcohol. Deputies located a fifth of vodka inside a hygiene bag and a cup in the driver’s cup holder, which smelled of odor of alcohol. Brown was transported to Whitfield County Jail, where he showed a BAC of .205 on the state. Brown was charged with open container violation and DUI Driving Under the Influence.
