North Carolina man arrested for DUI after driving all over the roadway in Whitfield County

According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On December 18th, 2023, at 12:08 AM, Deputy Hall performed a traffic stop on a blue Chevrolet Cruze at the North Bypass at Pleasant Grove Dr due to observing the vehicle failing to maintain its lane on several occasions. Deputy Hall made contact with Robert Guy Edge, 55, of Gastonia, NC. According to the report, “Deputy Hall detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the breath of Robert while speaking with him. Robert was also observed being unable to find his license in his wallet and tried to give Deputy Hall his credit card instead. Robert stated he may have left his license in Ringgold.” During Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, Robert showed several signs of impairment and was arrested for DUI. Robert denied implied consent. During a search of Robert’s vehicle incident to arrest, Deputy Hall found an open container of Icehouse Beer in a 32 oz can that had only about a quarter of the can left. Deputy Hall also found a bottle of Barefoot Wine that had been opened and only had about a quarter of it left as well. Upon running Robert through GCIC/NCIC it was discovered that he did not have a valid license. A dog was located inside, and the dog was picked up and transported by animal control. Robert was transported to the Whitfield County Jail and charged with DUI, driving while unlicensed, open container violation, and failure to maintain lane.
